She met a diverse group of florists from all over the world, and the atmosphere was overwhelming. Not only within the German team, but also with the other participants. Everyone was immensely talented and it was great to exchange experiences with each other. It was as if we entered a new creative world together, where creativity and cooperation were key.

What was very special is that despite the very stressful, challenging and extreme situation, everyone always showed 110% commitment.

It was an environment where everyone respected each other immensely, motivated and always wanted to help. A true community of florists who had passion for the profession and wanted to learn and grow.

The assignments were one of the biggest challenges of the competition. Kim: ‘’Every assignment was a total surprise; you didn't know beforehand what was expected of you. In four days, we had to complete nine assignments. Each with only 15 minutes of preparation time to go through the instructions. Some creations had to include at least 50% of the materials listed in the briefing. In some assignments, there were also specific components that had to be compulsorily incorporated.‘’

Despite the enormous pressure, Kim thoroughly enjoyed herself. ‘’The whole experience felt like I was racing through a tunnel like a high-speed train. The time I had with Björn, my coach, felt like an abbreviated master's programme, but even more intense. A large part of my good preparation was due to Team Germany's mental support. Because of them, I was able to go into the competition with confidence.‘’

Kim loved giving interviews, as it allowed her to pass on her passion for floral design to the whole world.

The level of all participants was incredibly high; we were in the world top of floral design.

For example, it was very special to see how cultural differences were clearly visible. In some Asian countries, participants prepare for the championship for up to seven years. The attention to detail in Asia was particularly impressive.

For the 2026 participants, she would like to impart: ‘ ’There are a lot of emotions involved, it is mentally a next-level challenge, and it is something very unique and big. So be prepared for the emotional rollercoaster that this championship brings.‘’

Kim looks back on her participation in WorldSkills Lyon 2024 with pride. ‘’It has enriched me not only as a florist, but also as a person. I hope more florists in the future get the chance to participate and have this incredible experience. Together, let's take floral design to the next level!‘’
