Grutsch: Sustainability in bloom
Last week, we visited our Preferred Supplier, nursery Grutsch, a beautiful family business where more than 100 varieties of flowers are passionately grown on 70 hectares of land. Grutsch is known for its commitment to sustainability. As such, they strive for a greener and more responsible society, where the (negative) impact on the environment and human health is minimised.
offers a wide range of carefully cultivated (cut) flowers. They combine quality with sustainability, so that customers can enjoy beautiful flowers carefree.

But how exactly does Grutsch ensure that they minimise their impact on the environment? They do this in several ways:
Eco-friendly cultivation methods
First of all, they use eco-friendly cultivation methods: Indeed, Grutsch uses ecological cultivation techniques, such as organic fertilisers and natural pesticides. They avoid the use of harmful chemicals, resulting in healthier (cut) flowers and a cleaner environment.
Water management
The nursery implements efficient irrigation systems to minimise water consumption. They use drip irrigation and reuse water wherever possible, avoiding waste.
Energy saving
Grutsch invests in energy-saving technologies, such as the use of solar energy and energy-efficient lighting systems. By reducing energy consumption, they contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.
Biological diversity
The nursery encourages biodiversity by conserving native flower species and creating a healthy habitat for different animals and insects. This helps maintain the ecosystem and supports natural pollination.
Recycling programme
Grutsch has also set up a recycling programme to convert flower waste into valuable compost, thus minimising waste and closing the loop. This commitment to sustainability not only has ecological benefits, but also provides economic benefits such as cost savings.
Social responsibility
Finally, Grutsch is committed to good working conditions and fair wages for their employees. They value ethical working practices and ensure a safe and healthy working environment. In addition, the company is involved in the community and offers educational programmes and tours to raise awareness about sustainability.

Grutsch serves as an example to other nurseries working on making their business more sustainable and they encourage others to start similar initiatives. With their commitment to ecological cultivation methods, water management, energy efficiency, promotion of biodiversity and social responsibility, they act as a pioneer in the field of sustainable business. By following their leadership, more and more organisations and individuals will contribute to a more sustainable and ethical society.
